John Stark Football News – First Edition – FINAL – 5-12-11

The John Stark Football Team earned the NHIAA Division IV Sportsmanship Award for the 2010 season. Each team nominates the top three opponents who demonstrate good sportsmanship. Among other factors, the teams are urged to consider the following when voting for outstanding sportsmanship:

• Coaches emotional control and behavior toward his team.

• Coaches behavior toward opponents, officials and fans.

• Players attitude and behavior toward opponents, officials and fans.

• Spectators support of their team, treatment of opponents and reaction to officials’ calls.

• School Administrators evidence of promoting the tenets of good sportsmanship.

• The absence of game disqualifications by coaches, players, spectators.

The Generals are coached by Attorney James O’Rourke from Henniker. Coach O’Rourke noted genuine pride that his team won the award. “When I took this job last spring, one of the first things I did was write a Mission Statement that states the values that I want my players to learn by playing football. To quote, ‘These values include self-discipline, perseverance, teamwork, cultivation of leadership, respect for self and one’s opponent and the spirit of competition.’ Winning this award tells me that the players not only internalized these important values, but that they exhibited them on and off the field. These values will stay with them as they become outstanding adults. We want to win on the field, and we will, but doing so is a whole lot easier when you have guys who do things the right way. This is why you play football; why you compete in athletics.”

Congratulations to the following John Stark Players who made All-State, Division IV for the 2010 Season:

First Team:  Christopher Procum – Defensive End.

Honorable Mention:

David Morgan – Tight End

Robert Dunn – Defensive Tackle

Nic Lloyd – Defensive Back

Bryan Wagner – Wide Receiver
