IC 10-1 Biology Expert Witnesses! We need a convincing report to obtain a conviction in the case of the 51 kg of confiscated bushmeat! Explain to the jurors that the airline passenger participated in the illegal bushmeat trade and how we know that the bushmeat is from a mandrill. Need more info? Click here: DNA Barcoding Lab Report
Dear AP Chemistry Students, Another snowstorm stymies our school day…please continue working on the solutions chapter materials I provided for you. You can complete the guided reading questions and problems worksheet packet. I expect questions, but I think you can handle the majority of the material on your own. If you need more direction prior to our next class meeting send me an email. We need to begin studying equilibrium ASAP!!! Enjoy the break from classes, but be productive!
IC Biology: Now that we’ve solved the mystery about who took Jeremy’s iPod, we need to write up that lab report! You can find the criteria for the lab report here: Introduction for Lab Report on Organic Compounds and the ‘Macromolecule Mystery Accelerated Chemistry: Thursday, Feb 13-Quiz: Introduction to the Mole See Learning Targets #1-12 AP Chemistry: Friday, Feb 14-Do Textbook problems Chapter 14 Kinetics # 23-31 odds
Accelerated Chemistry and IC Biology Students: EARN EXTRA CREDIT! Professor Hazen says: “This is it. It’s the coevolution of life and rocks. Rocks make life. Life makes rocks.” Listen to the broadcast ‘My Grandson the Rock’ at: http://www.npr.org/search/index.php?searchinput=my+grandson+the+rock Then write a summary to include the main idea and three supporting details.
IC-Biology: Now that you have finished identifying and researching the importance of the ten trees in the John Stark forest, you will take a test. You can use both your tree guide and your hand outs about forest succession to help you. Next up– you will learn about community interactions, or how different species interact within an ecosystem. You will study predator-prey, symbiotic, and competitive relationships, and design a food web of the New England forests. We will also revisit the plight of the peregrine falcon. Accelerated chemistry: How do we learn about the structure of things we cannot see? How did the discovery of the atom and its structure advance our society? Is radiation always a bad thing? This and more… up next! AP Chemistry: The thermochemistry unit is coming to an end, we’ll do a lab to find the heat of reaction of a chemical reaction using Hess’ Law. Your AP FRQ’s are due on Friday, Nov 12…but don’t wait! If you have questions, ask prior to the day these are due! IC-10-1 Biology We have begun our ecology unit with the study of the importance of forests. We now focus our attention to the forest in NH, right outside our front door! At this point, you should have 10 leaf specimens in our plant press. We will work to identify them using their scientific names and research their importance using Peterson field guides. The field guide is one tool that can be used for identification, but you will use a ‘dichotomous key’ as a tool for your identification work. We have an interesting few weeks ahead of us as we begin to understand how our activities impact the planet. Accelerated Chemistry- Welcome back, almost! I haven’t seen you in a while thanks to NECAPS! Hope you did your best, only together can we make a great school. Thanks for doing your part. As for my part…on Monday we shall finish the ‘Accuracy and Precision’ lab, and finish instruction/review of scientific notation calculations. Look forward to a test on the Learning Targets from #1-9, which you can find in the Scientific Measurement Unit page on this blog. HW: Due Monday-Calculate average deviation for each data set; Significant figures worksheet #1-75 odds. AP Chemistry: OOOooo titrations! What a fabulous way to determine the molarity of a solution. Today we standardize NaOH, next we find out the percent acetic acid in commercial vinegar. No wonder it tastes so sour! HW- Due Monday- Finish Part 1 Lab calculations for NaOH molarity; TB -Read section 4.6 pages 146-154, do #79-87 odds; WS Reactions in Aqueous Solution Study questions: #1-6,10-14 Due Wednesday-APFRQ 2001 #3c and 2006 #5all except ‘c’.
And so we begin our week… IC-Biology-We began our unit on ecology with a film that connects us to our past through the study of sociobiology and ancient civilizations. This week we look to our forest to learn the identities and importance of our native tree species. Did you complete your lab report on the ‘Brine Shrimp Investigation?’It was due last Wednesday! Accelerated Chemistry- I will miss you this week while you test your best! You do have HW however, it’s the chapter worksheets on scientific measurement. Next time I see you we will be calculating average deviation of the densities of water to see just how precise we can be. AP Chemistry- Bring your best solution prep skills cause you are going to have a reaction during the final part of our lab, ‘Solution Preparation.’ Your HW is in CEH- name those acids! Due Wednesday
IC-Biology Due today 9/29, Lab Report Brine Shrimp Investigation Thursday 9/30, Friday 10/1- Class Presentations Brine Shrimp Investigation Friday 10/2-Take Home Quiz Due-Characteristics of Living Things Accelerated Chemistry Due Thursday 9/30, Lab ‘Accuracy and Precision’ Density calculations using significant figures and Text book work section 3-1 worksheet AP Chemistry Due Wednesday -worksheet Molarity 1-10 Due Friday 10/1 Prelab Solution Preparation Monday is a B day Lab Preparation of Solutions.
I can’t wait to see the results of your brine shrimp lab. Each and every lab set-up will offer an interesting insight to our class ‘problem.’ Thanks for the good work!
